The Woolwich Floor Sanding Experts!

The small community of Woolwich became a maritime hub when Henry V111 opened the dockyard in 1515 for the building of ‘The Great Harry’.

 It also saw the launchings of  the famous ships of Elizabethan explorers such as Drake, Hawkins and Frobisher.

Perhaps its most splendid moment came with the launch of ‘The Royal Sovereign’ in 1637.

Although this intimidating man o’war had a hundred cannons over three tiers, it was famed for its decorations.  With its gilded carvings, the ship was dubbed ‘The Golden Devil’ by the Dutch.

A prestige project if ever there was one, its cost was linked to the hated ships’ tax of Charles the First - and thus the onset of the English Civil War.

The ship’s service ended when it was badly burnt in 1697.
